3 tips to safely having alcohol based sanitizing products in the house with kids

Safely use alcohol sanitizers with your kids

Where sanitizers with at least 70% alcohol are necessary to keep you safe from germs, there are some precautions you must take if you have young children around. Here are our three tips for safely having alcohol based sanitizing products in the house:

  1. Keep sanitizers out of your childrens’ reach
This may seem simple, but it’s good to have a certain high-up cupboard or shelf to always keep your sanitizers. Get into the habit of keeping them there so that your child doesn’t find it when they’re alone or you’re not watching.
  2. Make sure they rub the sanitizer in before touching their eyes
Children should only use sanitizer under adult supervision. Help them rub it in and make sure they don’t touch their eyes until their hands are dry. Once dry, your child can eat and play safely.
  3. Teach them to wash their hands with soap and water
This is just as effective as using sanitizing products but can be better for your child as they can do it on their own. Soap and water are better than sanitizer when it comes to cleaning hands of dirt (sanitizer disinfects – there’s a difference).

Ingesting a small amount of sanitizer can lead to poisoning in young children, making it extremely important that parents and caregivers take appropriate precautions. OmniProtect is a hand and surface sanitizing spray for when you are out and about – as long as you spray your child’s hands for them.
