Keep your handbag clean! It could contain more germs than a toilet handle

A research study by the company Initial Washroom Hygiene, which swabbed handbags to find the dirtiest parts found that 20% had levels of bacteria-related contamination which could potentially cross-contaminate other surfaces – and contained more germs than the average toilet handle. Items inside the handbags didn’t fare well either.

Swabs revealed that face or hand cream were most-bacteria ridden items, followed by make-up like lipstick and mascara.

Leather handbags were the most likely to contain the most bacteria, because the spongy material is a perfect breeding ground, according to the study. To stop the spread of germs and kill them in their tracks, keep a 70% alcohol aerosol sanitizer in your handbag, and sanitize your belongings and handbag, too.

To help stop the spread of harmful viruses, it’s important to practice good hygiene – washing hands with soap and water and using a 70% alcohol aerosol hand sanitizer, like OmniProtect Sanitizer Spray.
