When are you protected against COVID-19 after being vaccinated?
Children experience less severe symptoms of COVID-19 than adults do, which are mild and cold-like.
Watch out for these symptoms of COVID-19 in children:
- Extreme fatigue
- Fever
- Changes in the skin, such as discolored areas on the feet and hands
- Chills
- Cough that becomes productive
- Gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, belly pain or diarrhea
- Loss of taste or smell
- Muscle aches
- Nasal congestion
- Severe headache
- Sore throat
The Mayo Clinic advises:
- If your child has symptoms of COVID-19, call your family doctor.
- Keep your child at home and away from others as much as possible, except to get medical care.
- If possible, have your child use a separate bedroom and bathroom from family members.
- Follow recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) and your government regarding quarantine and isolation measures as appropriate.
- If your child has COVID-19 and can be treated at home, focus on relieving their symptoms with rest, fluid intake and pain relievers.
To help prevent the spread of illness, use a 70% alcohol aerosol spray hand sanitizer, and always wash your hands with soap and water.
