Where to get tested for COVID-19 in South Africa

Can I catch Coronavirus from my pet?

If you suspect you may have contracted the coronavirus, you’re urged to get tested, and if positive, self-isolate to avoid transmitting it. Here’s where you can get tested.

You can get tested at public hospitals, private doctors, community clinics and pharmaceutical retailers, like Clicks and Dis-Chem. Make sure you sanitize your hands and surfaces with a 70% alcohol hand sanitizer when you get tested.

  • Testing at private groups
Netcare and Mediclinic have their own communications channels if you require coronavirus-related help. If you’re unsure of the testing facilities in your area, call the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) on 0800 029 999.
  • Testing at Clicks
Book for your Covid-19 test through Clicks’ website, or phone your nearest pharmacy if online booking isn’t an option. Enquire before you arrive, because testing isn’t guaranteed at all Clicks stores.
  • Testing at Dis-Chem
Book for your test through Dis-Chem’s in-house Wellness Clinics. You’ll need to register first. Dis-Chem offers both PCR viral swab tests and rapid antibody tests. To find your nearest clinic, call 086 111 7427 or use Dis-Chem’s online store finder.
  • Testing at pathology chains
Ampath, Lancet, PathCare and Vermaak take samples at numerous centres around the country. Some offer a drive-through service.
  • Testing at home
You’ll pay extra for home testing. Book online via travel company VHS Global.
